FAQ

Mount Aconcagua, standing at 6,961 meters above sea level, is an expedition recommended for individuals with experience in mountains above 5,000 meters and who are in excellent physical condition.

It is a significant challenge that requires planning, training, and a high level of cardiovascular endurance, as it involves walking for several hours a day over multiple days while carrying a considerable weight in your backpack.

Participants must be in good health and avoid any medical conditions that could worsen due to physical exertion and altitude.

Although Aconcagua is not a technical mountain, its difficulty depends on several factors, such as the chosen route (the Normal Route being the easiest) and weather conditions.

The mountain can be extremely cold and windy. On expeditions with good weather, the difficulty decreases significantly. Altitude also becomes a major challenge, but we will constantly provide advice to help you avoid altitude sickness.

The best season is between November and late February, with January and February being the optimal months.

You must arrive in Mendoza, Argentina.

In Mendoza, we stay at a 5-star hotel for a couple of days. In the mountains, you’ll share a tent with one other person, and we’ll always try to pair you with someone of the same gender.

We walk between 3 to 5 hours per day.

There are two long days: the day we reach base camp (8-9 hours) and summit day (12-13 hours).

We carefully select all our guides.

On this mountain, we always use guides certified by the park. Expeditions with fewer than 10 participants are led by our local staff, while larger groups (over 10 people) include a Spanish-speaking team leader such as Vanessa Estol, Ossy Freire, or Pablo Sandoval, who travel from our home countries.

At base camp, the food is excellent, with a three-course menu. We serve plenty of meat, pasta, pizza, delicious desserts, and you can even enjoy some wine (in moderation due to altitude, as alcohol dehydrates).

At higher camps, we carry freeze-dried food (dehydrated meals), though at some camps, we also cook pasta, rice, burgers, quesadillas, etc.

The food on Aconcagua is very good, and we’ll also provide snacks for trekking between camps.

Walking slowly, staying well-hydrated, eating properly, and getting good rest are key to acclimatizing successfully.

There are no refunds for cancellations or for failing to reach objectives due to bad weather or circumstances beyond our control.

If you need to cancel with us, you can transfer your spot to someone else who meets the physical requirements to complete the expedition.

Yes, rescue and evacuation insurance is mandatory. We recommend Global Rescue. Make sure to add coverage for high-altitude mountaineering.

Yes.

The hotels we work with have storage facilities where you can leave everything you won’t need during the expedition.

This depends on whether you hire a porter or decide to carry all your gear yourself.

Without a porter, the difficulty level increases significantly, as you’ll need to carry around 20-22 kilograms (44-48 pounds). This is because, in this type of expedition, communal equipment is divided among participants. Each person carries about 8-9 kilograms of shared gear, plus their personal clothing, tent, food, gas, cooking supplies, etc.

If you hire a full porter (20 kilograms), you’ll only need to carry about 5 kilograms, which includes your water, extra layers, and daily snacks.

Ask about the cost of hiring a porter, which varies yearly but typically costs around $1,200 for the entire climb. You can also share a porter with another participant to split the cost.

We’ll assist you with all logistical arrangements, but it’s important to know that any expenses incurred due to leaving the expedition early are the responsibility of the participant.

We’ll assist you with all logistical arrangements, but it’s important to know that any expenses incurred due to leaving the expedition early are the responsibility of the participant.

Aconcagua is known for having many days of bad weather. Our 18-day program ensures you have the best chance of success with enough buffer days. It also guarantees better acclimatization.

We recommend not attempting this mountain with agencies offering trips shorter than 17 days.

Yes. Some climbers hire a private guide for summit day, which increases their chances of success. You can inquire about pricing.
